She collected some good wins during her 2008 puppy career and 2009 was promising with a 2nd at Crufts from a large Junior class. However, we would have liked her to hold her topline better when she moves. At Crufts in 2010 she was placed first in a large Post Graduate class, a good win, but still we thought that she was letting herself down a little bit by being rather hurried and losing her topline.
Kim Russell was visiting Crufts from California, with her husband Mike. Kim had sucessfully handled several of our standards in the US, so we asked her to run Lola outside the ring when showing was finished, in hope rather than expectation! Lola took to Kim so well that with little schooling from Kim she moved smoothly and kept a good topline.
About 2 weeks after Crufts, we asked to send her out to Kim, with the hope that she could train her to hold her topline and move collectedly and evenly. With her long tail we thought that she would struggle to finish in US, but as things turned out it wasn't a problem, who knows- some judges may have marked her down because of her tail but we were not aware. Barry took her out to San Francisco mid April and she earned her first points towards her US Champ two weeks later. We saw her at PCA in Salisbury at end of April and as the movie ahows she seemed to be a different dog!! Kim did work wonders with her as she had done some 10 years earlier with Katy (Ch & Am Ch Serekunda Spice Girl). Thanks Kim
Lola finished her US Championship in July 2010 and after a break went on to earn her Grand CH points in January 2011. We visited in October 2010 attending five back to back shows at Pleasanton, we were really pleased with her progress under Kim, she was placed BOS at three shows.Shortly going to see her at the Westminster KC Show at Madison Sq. Gardens. She will be returning for Crufts and then will stay home and we hope to attend shows at home.
Well at Westminster she showed well but was beaten by the current top Standard, not a surprise but we really thought she should have been awarded an AM, but not to be. Its a great show, at Madison Square Gardens, thanks to Kim and Akiko for preparing her so well. Next stop is Crufts! should be interesting!
We have been thinking of seeing Lola at Crufts for so long and was delighted that Kim agreed to fly from San Francisco to show her and to delivery her back to us. The trip went well and they both arrived at Heathrow full of sparkle on Saturday to be shown on the Sunday. At the show she moved out really well but was only placed 5th from, all be it, a large class- a bit of a disappointment but thats dog showing! When she got home on the Monday she met up with her pals and had a great introduction to them - all went very well with no arguments. We thought she was a bit more introvert than when she left home, so with other circumstances we decided to rest her from the show ring, cut off her show coat and will see how things go over the next few months before deciding to regrow her coat. She has had a busy show life and deserves a rest now.
