Leicester

Serekunda Sovereign

owned by Margaret

Bred by Mrs Christine Dallas of Seattle WA

Christine liked what she had seen of Nancy House's litter by Albert in 06 and decided to mate him to Holly. We were impressed by his US, UK & Euro pedigree including some of the best lines. At PCA in June we met up with Christine, she recommended him to us, other friends had seen him and had liked him, so we agreed terms- no regrets at all!!

Leicester started his show career by moving to Tim Brazier's kennel near Seattle when he was just over 4 months old. Handled by Tim his first shows were at 27 weeks old when he won Reserve dog (RWD) twice at the Kennewick, WA shows. Two weeks later at four back to back shows at Boise, Idaho, he followed with being Best Of Winners (BW) three times and Winners Dog (WD). We watch his unfolding career with a keen interest and are hoping to meet up with him in the near future!!

We met up with Leicester, Christine and Tim during our visit to Seattle in January 2008. We watched him for the first time at the three shows at Puyallup and were delighted with his style and attitude. He is well on track to be awarded his American Championship but requires two majors. Recently the availability of majors in the north western states is almost nil, so to have a chance of finishing he would have to change to a Californian handler where majors are more available. We had hoped that he could achieve his title before we would have to decide whether to bring him to UK.

To progress his American career he would need to change handler and location. It seemed to be unfair to cause this disruption to him, and may effect his puppy career. We decided that since his passport was almost completed then the best course was for him to transfer to UK as soon as possible. On Friday 8th February he left Seattle for his new home, arriving at Heathrow at midday on Saturday. We collected from the Animal Health Centre in the afternoon, he had travelled well but was wary of his new surroundings. We had little Lola with us in the van and he cheered up a lot when he met her!

We hope to return him to Tim in a couple of years time, hopefully to complete his American Championship. Our thanks to Tim for training and presenting him so well and to Christine for allowing us to have him and supporting his move to UK. The picture is of him in his English puppy trim at almost 11 months.

We showed him regularly at home in 2008 and he would show well one week, sometimes a win, and not so well the next, he was erratic and a little unpredictable. In mid 2008 he was cut out into Continental trim, he looks fine, an attractive head with a quzzical look, his coat is gradually becoming blue as did his grandma's Kate. He can move very well indeed with good reach and drive, and we just hope he will settle more as he matures. He has started off 2009 well with a 2nd in Post Grad class at Crufts, but only after making three complete pirouettes on the first run around! that's Leicester! We love him to bits! In July 2008 World Show in Stockholm he was placed 3rd in a very large class by Claire Coxall- a very good result. We campaigned him throughout 2009 and 2010 up to July.
