Bred by Margaret, now lives in Bay Point, near San Francisco CA
Owned By Vicki & Glenn Zumwalt & Margaret
As a young pup he was attacked by a Mastiff whilst out on a walk, this shook his confidence a lot, he recovered well but was always a liitle wary of other dogs.In June 2004 we took him to the US to compete at Poodle Club of America Specialty Show at Salisbury, Maryland. He met his new handler, Kim Russell-Walz, who quickly changed his coat style to the American puppy clip and then went on to win the Novice Class. He gained quite a few admirers on the day, not least his father King!
Since then Kim has campaigned him in Caifornia and he was awarded his AKC Championship in March 2005.He disappointed at the PCA National in June 2005 under Debbie Cozart, not making the final cut in the large Open class. He looked good and showed beautifully though!
Kim agreed to Special him and he has been shown as a Special with varying success. Always looking good and presented, with great conformation, a fine head with a soft expression, a super mover, covering well - a really typey poodle. But letting himself down by not showing with that extra edge of enthusiasm that the top show dogs must have, (only a handful of those each year of course!).
We visited the Palm Springs shows in early January 2006, and watched him awarded Best of Opposite Sex on three days out of four. It was a wonderful show held in idyllic and spectacular surroundings, a mixture of desert and tropical landscape surrounded by some snow capped mountains. His final show was at PCA in June 2006, where he made the first cut of the dog section in the Specials Class under Frank Sabella.
At our request Kim agreed to rehome him in the San Francisco area. In July 2006, she offered him to clients of hers, Vicky & Glenn Zumvalt of Bay Point who had sadly only recently lost their first poodle. They were good enough to take him into their home and since then he has settled down to life as a pet and friend of fellow poodle pet-Fritz.
Margaret visited the Zumvalts in August 06, and was delighted that Albert had such proud and kind owners. Albert was of course in pet clip, his new blue coat was showing through, and he was in fine poodley form. The Zumvalts have featured him on the 'www.dogster.com' website, (not sure where the 'Prince Albert' name came from though!!). He is available for stud by arrangement with the Zumvalts and Kim Russell-Walz.He has had all the required health checks and has passed them all.
Albert reckons he lives in Poodle heaven, the Zumvalts have taken him to there hearts. Vicki and he are regular attenders of an obedience class and is making super progress, Vicki runs with him regularly too! He is looking forward to a fabulous 2007. In May 2007 he achieved the AKC award of Canine Good Citizen, this required him to achieve several tests of good behaviour with Vicki and with others, he passed with flying colours- congrats to Vicki, her hard work and training has been awarded too!
We visited the Zumwalts during our visit in January 2008, they gave us a lovely welcome and of course we met up with Albert. He was on fine form and very fit, he had put on a little weight since Margaret last saw him- the result of a contented life! Vicki says she and he are now in training and hope to join the Rally circuit shortly. We are so pleased that his champion son Ace also joined the Zumwalt family early in 2008.
Albert has proved to be a successful stud having sired four US champions with, we hope, another on the way in 2009!
